Name: Robbie YoungRobbie Young

Organization: CUInsight

Title: VP of Strategic Growth

When did you attend DE Training: May 2022

Why did you decide to attend DE training? I was eager to gain a deeper understanding of the credit union mission. While I anticipated learning a lot, I was unprepared for the profound impact it would have on my career and personal growth at a time when I needed it the most.

What were your thoughts about DE training before you arrived/attended? ‘Trust the process’ – which honestly, I think makes it sound a little scary.

How did DE change you? DE empowered me to integrate my passion for mental health advocacy into my professional work within the credit union movement.

Key changes included:

    • A deepened understanding of the credit union model’s potential for social impact.
    • The realization that I could effectively blend my personal advocacy with my professional role.
    • A strong connection with a supportive community that validated my experiences and encouraged me to share my story.
    • Recognition of Mental Health as a critical part of financial well-being.

What were your top three takeaways from DE training?

    • The power of the credit union model for social impact: Recognizing its potential to drive meaningful change.
    • The integration of personal passion with professional purpose: Finding a way to combine my advocacy with my career.
    • The importance of community and shared experience: Understanding the value of collaboration and vulnerability in driving change.

How did you incorporate what you learned at DE into your job? I actively integrated my mental health advocacy into my role at CUInsight.com by:

    • Highlighting the connection between mental and financial well-being in our content.
    • Using my platform to raise awareness and reduce stigma around mental health.
    • Sharing practical strategies for credit unions to support mental health.

What is your DE project?

Becoming a “Talk Saves Lives” facilitator and speaking to credit unions nationwide about prioritizing mental health for their teams, members, and communities.
